How is MFR different from other therapies?

MFR empowers you to heal yourself without the need to be fixed. You work in tandem with your therapist to achieve your goals and address the root cause of your issues and complaints. As an active participant you become that person without pain and other symptoms that have held you back.

"Over the past 40 years I have gone to many different forms of bodywork on a semi-monthly basis, from massage, reiki and acupuncture to chiropractic, EMDR and breathwork. I always felt that I responded well to these therapies and attributed that ‘success’ to the skills and competence of the practitioner and not to the interaction of my own body with the help of my therapist. With Lorien, I feel like I am working with her like a partner. She encourages me to tune into my inner experience and give voice to it. Directing me to my own healing energy to reduce the blocks within."

What is MFR therapy?

The John Barnes' Approach to MFR encompasses hands-on technique, Unwinding, Rebounding and self care. This therapy allows for healing and increased circulation through areas of myofascial restriction providing relief from symptoms. It is deeply profound work that gets to the very root of the issues you are experiencing.

What is fascia?

Fascia is everywhere in your body, connecting all of your body parts together. It has no end and no beginning. It is composed of water, collagen and elastic fibers creating a liquid crystalline matrix. The health of your fascia is integral to your nutritional and hormonal functions as well as your optimal physical functioning.

What causes a 'fascial restriction'?

Stress, trauma, inflammation, postural issues, repetitive motion or surgical procedures create myofascial restrictions. Your fascia can produce tensile pressures up to 2,000 pounds per square inch! This explains why we feel so much pain and experience debilitating conditions and disease. These restrictions do not show up in any of the standard medical tests.

Will it hurt?

Pain is one of the main reasons some clients come to MFR and sometimes there is a concern about it hurting. MFR is gentle and effective. Therapeutic pain can happen during a session, but there is always a purpose to your pain and you have the opportunity to release it.
