"The John F. Barnes' approach to Myofascial Release (MFR) is the most important therapy in your health care. In a society that promotes disconnection from your body and mind’s natural ability to find balance, this transformational work helps you reconnect with your innate capacity to heal. MFR isn’t just the first therapy to try—it’s the one you’ll return to again and again."

"Working with Lorien, I am off all pain medications! I have a greater sense of trust and confidence in my balance, strength and awareness. My walking has improved in pace and enjoyment. I feel 20 years younger and 20 pounds lighter!"

MFR empowers you to heal yourself without the need to be fixed. You work in tandem with your therapist to achieve your goals and address the root cause of your issues. As an active participant you become that person without pain and other symptoms that have held you back.
"Over the past 40 years I have gone to many different forms of bodywork on a semi-monthly basis, from massage, reiki and acupuncture to chiropractic, EMDR and breathwork. I always felt that I responded well to these therapies and attributed that ‘success’ to the skills and competence of the practitioner and not to the interaction of my own body with the help of my therapist. With Lorien, I feel like I am working with her like a partner. She encourages me to tune into my inner experience and give voice to it. Directing me to my own healing energy to reduce the blocks within."

The John Barnes' Approach to MFR encompasses hands-on technique, Unwinding, Rebounding and self care. This therapy allows for healing and increased circulation through areas of myofascial restriction providing relief from symptoms. It is deeply profound work that gets to the very root of the issues you are experiencing.

Fascia is the most abundant tissue in your body, it is very strong and connects all of your body parts together. Running in a three dimensional web that has no end and no beginning, it is composed of water, collagen and elastic fibers. This creates what we call a liquid crystalline matrix. Within this matrix is all the other systems of tissue of your body (muscles, bones, joints, organs, glands etc.), extending all the way down to each cell. Because of it's deep integration, the health of your fascia is integral to the health of all the parts inside it, as well as your optimal physical functioning.
Stress, trauma (physical, mental or emotional), inflammation, postural issues, repetitive motion or surgical procedures all create myofascial restrictions. Amazingly, your fascia can produce tensile pressures up to 2,000 pounds per square inch! This explains why we can feel so much pain. When we experience debilitating conditions and dis-ease, these increase fascial restrictions as well. None of which can show up in any of the conventional medical tests. Interestingly, you can have restricted fascia and not even know it. Pain and other symptoms can show up years after an original event, often triggered by another event or prolonged periods of stress.
Pain is one of the main reasons some clients come to MFR and sometimes there is a concern about it hurting. MFR is gentle and effective. Therapeutic pain can happen during a session, but there is always a purpose to your pain and you have the opportunity to release it. You always have control over intensity and pressure during your session. Feeling more pain does not mean you are getting more benefit from your treatment.
